Bill de Blasio, New York City’s mayor, hardly has his act together. He loves to identify himself as one of the best mayors of all time. He’s got just as much of an ego as the state’s governor, Andrew Cuomo. Yet, like Cuomo, he hasn’t done enough to prove that he’s as good as he says he is.
In fact, many have identified that de Blasio may very well be the worst mayor ever.
New York City was one of the first cities in the U.S. to feel the surge of the COVID-19 pandemic. Why? Rather than heeding the advice of Trump and the CDC, de Blasio encouraged to go see a show on Broadway.
Following the death of George Floyd, the city was wrecked with countless riots – and NYPD simply couldn’t keep up with it all. What did de Blasio do? Not much. He actually threatened to cut the funding of the police department rather than throwing his support behind them.
People of New York City are getting restless from the pandemic. There’s also talk of police reform that has countless people on edge.
The number of shootings in NYC has nearly doubled from last year – and that’s following an era of low crime rates.
Rudy Giuliani served as the mayor from 1994 to 2001 and was considered “America’s mayor” because of the incredible things that he did for the city. He reduced violence and homelessness. NYC had never been better. Mike Bloomberg continued to maintain the city.
Now, for the past six years, New York City has had to deal with the constant failings of Bill de Blasio.
Violent crime has been surging, with headlines ranging from shootings to attacks on the subway. Everyone seems to be aware of it…except for the city’s mayor.
Several reports have been made about people being shoved onto the subway tracks across New York City. Some have been more injured than others – and in most instances, suspects have been arrested thanks to cameras at the stations.

The interim president with NYC Transit, Sarah Feinberg explains that it’s not fair to the people using the system to have to risk their lives. She commented, “We have a crisis in this city, and it absolutely has to be addressed.”
She’s right, and it’s up to the mayor to do something about it. But he continues to turn a blind eye to the problem. He points the finger in every direction except toward himself. He claims that the latest surge in crime is because of school and business closures related to the pandemic.
So…just because people aren’t at school or work, they’re turning to crime? That doesn’t seem right. Perhaps it’s because of civil unrest and a lack of leadership from the city government.
The economy in NYC has been faltering for quite some time – and a quick look at where de Blasio’s priorities are can shine some light on the issues. The increase in violence is causing a number of people to reconsider where they live. Residents and companies alike are choosing to move out of NYC – and that’s only going to hit the economy harder because of losing tax income.
The police reform and defunding the police that a small group wanted has led de Blasio to make some very poor decisions. There are fewer police officers on the streets than there have been in years – and that’s why there are as many crimes as there are.

There are no repercussions for those who break the law. The police aren’t there to arrest them. And if they are arrested but were part of a “peaceful protest,” they’re released without having to serve any time.
The Sergeants Benevolent Association already knows what the problem is – City Council took NYPD’s ability to make arrests. No one wants to arrest anyone because they’re fearful of another George Floyd instance.
Since de Blasio has chosen to side with the criminals instead of the cops, NYC is going to continue in its downward spiral.
